Short Post This Time

Today will be a short post updating you all on life in our home.

My New Years resolution to begin a healthy eating diet (not dieting but diet) got off to a shaky start last Sunday when I began feeling very unwell and ill.  I did, infact, have food poisoning (Camplyobacter). Mmmm....enough said.  Lucklily it was just I who got sick, but a mystery as to where I came in contact with bad food as I hadn't stepped out of the house for days.  I must admit it was the sickest I have ever felt in my life.  So ironically I am down a few kilos now, but not really the way I wanted it to be!

So I am very much still "under the weather" but feeling a WHOLE lot better than during the week.  My next post should read A salute to my family and my dear husband who nursed me and took over the running of the house.  For my lovely daughter who at twelve took over the cooking .  And Alex of course who pitched in with the cooking as well.  For those of you who are interested to see what was made with those plums? Alf made jam and stewed all those plums. What a rock!

I will leave you with this little poem about chickens. I must admit to finding it on a blog somewhere, but I can't remember where exactly. Enjoy.

All I Need To Know In Life I Learned From My Hens
Wake up early, stay busy, rest when you need too,
but always stay alert.
Visit your favourite places each day.
Scratch out a living.
Routine is good.
Plump is good.
Don't ponder your purpose in life-your brain is too small.
Accept the pecking order and know your enemies.
Weed your garden.
Protect your children fiercely - sit on them if you need to.
Take them for walks, show them the little things and talk constantly.
Make a nice nest.
Share it with friends.
Brag on your accomplishments.
Don't count your chicks before they hatch.
Protect your nest egg.
Test your wings once in a while.
Squawk when necessary.
As you age, demand respect.
Leave a little something for those who care about you.
Chase butterflies.

  1. Loved the poem! It is a keeper! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you back on your feet - bet your family were too - You have done a good job training them to be able to step up.

    Love Leanne
